The City of Lumberton is located on the Lumber River in southeastern North Carolina.  The river derived its name from the extensive timber harvesting and transporting done in the 1700�s.
Lumberton was recognized and designated as the County Seat in 1787 and is by far the largest municipality in Robeson County having experienced acceleration in growth following World War II.  The City takes pride in its contributions to the cultural and economic history of the region, and, with strong citizen involvement, has been active in recent years in refurbishing its historic area.

Lumberton is family focused with a number of great annual events such as the Chevy to the Levee, Rumba on the Lumber, Mid-Atlantic Fly-In and Sport Aviation Convention, and Alive After Five.  In December, we have an annual Christmas Tree Lighting in downtown as well as a Christmas Flotilla on the Lumber River.locals and visitors alike.
